Mesa Verde National Park is located in southwest Colorado. We enjoyed viewing many of the preserved cliff dwellings and ancient artifacts. These archeological Puebloans ruins were divine and mystical.
The best canyon vistas can be reached by foot. Trails like the Petroglyph Point Trail, Spruce Canyon, and Cedar Trail will give you more solitude than the crowded cliff dwellings. However, the Cliff Palace is essential to witness. This place seemed to be the best home to live anywhere in America before America was America.
We were fortunate enough to stay inside the park. At night, there was very little light pollution. There was a storm many miles away and the lightning was fantastic to see. Bill turned 40 years old the next morning.
